Arriving at the Hare and Hounds camp site, we pitched up – normally we wouldn’t make a big deal about this, but we literally levelled the van in one go and hit a perfect ‘bullseye’ on the spirit level. Definitely a point worth noting and hopefully a good omen for the rest of the weekend!
Despite its name and the building at the entrance? The Hare and Hounds is no longer a working pub, just a couple of very well maintained fields with showers and toilets. Nothing fancy, but clean facilities and a power shower is all you need!
Despite not being a public house, the Horse and Cart is only a ten minute walk into Peasmarsh (which is where we’re headed next) and the bus stop, with a regular service into Rye, is right on the doorstep
As promised, just a ten minute walk (although it took a bit longer as flip flops have never, nor will ever, be comfortable walking shoes – and in 30C heat too!), the Horse and Cart appears to be a typical pub for locals, but looks can be deceiving….
Inside a traditional English pub awaited us, with a welcome to match and walking through the pub to the garden at the back bought us to an oasis of calm, along with a wooden pagoda, covered in grape vines awaited us.
The menu was great too and we were able to enjoy a couple of bowls of beautifully cooked Moules, before heading back to MAEV to veg out in the sunshine for the rest of the day.
